Israel acting against basic tenets of civilized conduct: Mufti

Strongly condemning the unrelenting Israeli attacks on the hapless Palestinians, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed has expressed dismay over the failure of the World community in preventing the loss of innocent lives in the region.

“For the past 20 days, the World is watching as a mute spectator the mass execution of innocent Palestine civilians, including hundreds of women and children by the tyrannical Israelis,” Sayeed said in a statement Thursday. He said the international community, in general, and the Muslim countries, in particular, must take immediate concrete action to prevent further loss of innocent lives in the region. “The international community must break its silence on the Israeli onslaught,” he added.

“There is absolutely no justification in Israeli actions that cause deaths and injuries to innocent civilians,” Sayeed said and added that there is no military solution to the conflict and Israeli attacks on civilians are a brazen violation of the basic tenets of the civilized conduct. He said the continued use of indiscriminate force by the Israelis against the Palestinians would only escalate the spiral of violence in the region.

The PDP founder said the blockade of an UN-sponsored ceasefire in the region by the Bush-administration has unravelled the worst kind of US double standards on the issue. He said as a responsible and influential secular democratic republic, Government of India could play a crucial role in preventing death and destruction in the region.

Expressing solidarity with the suffering of Palestinians, Sayeed said PDP extends full support to the democratic protests over the issue. “To protest against injustices against humanity is a democratic right and we fully support such protests against the Israeli onslaught,” he said.
