July 30: A strong supporter of the reservation quota for other backward classes in education, Human Resource Minister of UPA government, Arjun Singh has landed with a charge of dowry case filed by his grand daughter-in-law under Anti-dowry act.
Priyanka Singh was married to Abhijeet Singh the grand son of Arjun Singh one and half years ago. Now on Sunday Priyanka’s father lodged an FIR in Moradabad police station, northwest city of Uttar Pradesh against Arjun Singh, his wife, his son and grandson.
Case was registered on July 29 though the directive was issued by Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate, Chandausi on July 27. When police was asked why it delayed the registration of the case for two days they told that investigation took time.
Madhavendra Singh has alleged in his complain that his daughter’s in-laws are torturing his daughter for bringing a Marcedes Car and a flat from her father.
HRD minister managed to keep himself aloof from the matter saying that he has nothing to do with the case as the marriage did not carry his consent and he did not attend the marriage ceremonies.
Congress leader said that his opinion was sidelined in the wedding thus keeping himself away from any involvement in the harassment of the grand-daughter-in-law.
This is to be known that dowry is a cognizable offence in India. Two amendments made in 1984 and 1986 made dowry giving and receiving a cognizable offence.
Dowry demanding is illegal and severely punishable in India.
