Panchkula (Haryana), Dec 15 (IANS) Five people, including four engineering students, died and seven others were critically injured in a road accident here Monday, police said.
The accident took place at national highway 73 (Panchkula to Yamunanagar), about 20 km from here.
'Eleven students were going to their college in a motor vehicle, when their vehicle collided with a speeding truck coming from the opposite direction. Four students and driver of the vehicle died on the spot while seven others got critically injured,' Deputy Superintendent of Police Rajesh Kalia told IANS.
He said the injured have been admitted to a general hospital here.
The victims have been identified as civil engineering students of Swami Devi Dyal Institute of Engineering and Technology, Barwala town in Haryana. The bodies have been sent for autopsy, he added.
'We have informed the college authorities and working in association with them to trace the addresses of the victims,' said Kalia.
A student said: 'They were going to give their practical examination that was in the morning shift. Everyday we go to the college in the same motor vehicle from Panchkula and paid its driver the monthly fees.'
