Hisar (Haryana), Dec 8 (IANS) Festivities have not stopped at the house of Haryana resident Rajo Devi, who became the world's oldest mom at 70.
'For the last 10 days, there is a marriage-like environment at the house of Bala Ram (Rajo Devi's husband) and the party is going on all through the day and night. Everyone here is very happy that the couple has finally fulfilled their dream,' said an upbeat relative of Bala Ram.
After over 54 years of childless married life, Devi finally on Nov 28 gave birth to a baby girl through in-vitro fertilization (IVF) treatment at the National Fertility Centre in the Hisar district of Haryana, around 300 km from Chandigarh.
A relative said the elderly couple needn't worry about bringing up baby. 'They should not worry about bringing up their daughter as we have a joint family and there are countless people to take care of her,' he said.
Devi married Ram in 1954 but even after the 10 years of marriage, the couple could not have a child. In a desperate bid to have a child, Ram even married the younger sister of Devi but still could not realize his dream.
Finally ending the long wait, now the septuagenarian couple, who hail from a village in Jind district of Haryana, were blessed with a girl child Sunday.
'They came to us for the treatment of infertility during early this year. Although there were some complications in the earlier stages but with the help of advanced technology we overcame these. Now both the mother and child are in healthy state,' Anurag Bishnoi, who supervised the case, told IANS.
'She is probably the world's oldest mother and the first woman to give birth to a child in her seventies. Earlier, there was a Romanian woman, Adriana Iliescu, who gave birth to a child at the age of 67 in 2006,' said Bishnoi.
