Hyderabad, Dec 1 (IANS) The Andhra Pradesh government Monday announced a compensation of Rs.300,000 each for the families of Telugus killed in the terror attacks in Mumbai last week.
This assistance will be in addition to the compensation announced for the kin of all the victims by the Maharashtra government.
Three persons from Andhra Pradesh, including two from Hyderabad and a woman from Nizamabad district, were gunned down by the terrorists.
Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy announced the compensation in the state legislative assembly while moving a resolution to mourn the victims of Mumbai attacks.
The assembly unanimously condemned the terror attacks, which claimed nearly 200 lives. Led by the chief minister, the house expressed grief over the loss of life and observed a minute's silence in the memory of the victims.
The legislators also paid rich tributes to the police officials and National Security Guard (NSG) commandos who laid down their lives while fighting terrorists.
The chief minister hailed the courage of the NSG commandos in neutralising the terrorists. 'It is a matter of pride that two of the commandos who participated in the operations were from our state,' he said.
Leader of opposition and president of main opposition Telugu Desam party N. Chandrababu Naidu termed the attacks 'brutal'. He hailed the bravery of the police and the military in eliminating the terrorists.
Naidu also called for necessary security measures in the state to foil Mumbai-type attacks.
