Lucknow, Nov 26 (IANS) A special BBC report on the state of primary education in Uttar Pradesh has won the prestigious Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) award.
The report broadcast by BBC Uttar Pradesh correspondent Ram Dutt Tripathi was among entries from different parts of Asia. Tripathi's story was picked up by the BBC World Service for the award.
'The unique part of this story was that it was prepared without a written script and one of the listeners was asked to do the citizen's reporter for the story that was based on certain locations in Lakhimpur-Kheri district of Uttar Pradesh,' Tripathi told IANS here.
Lakhimpur-Kheri resident Diwakar Singh played the citizen reporter.
'We began by taking reponse of listeners throughout the country about the state of primary education in different states of India,' he said.
The report series was titled 'Aaao School chalen' (Let us go to School). It was produced by Rupa Jha.
