On the sidelines of the ongoing International Film Festival of India (IFFI) 2008, the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC) – the central agency established to promote good cinema – has organised ‘Film Bazaar India 08’ at Marriott Resort in Goa from November 26-29.
The Film Bazaar aimed at encouraging Indian cinema by opening up a co-production market for producers, filmmakers and distributors from across the world. Furthermore, this will facilitate collaboration among potential domestic and international partners in terms of production, finance and sale of films and documentary projects.
This year, 15 film projects and 10 non-feature documentary projects will be presented for the co-production market segment.
In a press statement released on Wednesday, Nina Lath Gupta, the Managing Director of NFDC said, ‘Film Bazaar is a co-production and distribution market for feature and non-feature films that reflects the diversity of India and those projects are looking for finance and market.’
The non-feature category includes environmentalist Mike Pandey’s film on global disappearance of bees, Nitin K’s 'Gang of 7', Preeti Mankar’s 'Mad about IIT-JEE', AIM Television’s 'Killer Punch' and Pramod Mathur's project on melting glaciers.
Among the 15 feature films in the co-production market, there is Indra Sinha’s Booker nominated novel Animal People by English Director Michael Anderson, 'Samuel Kartikeya' - a Tamil/Hindi bilingual about a vigilante whose goal is to cleanse society from evil, an adaptation of Vikas Swarups's new book Six Suspects, and 'West is West' (the sequel to East is East).
In partnership with European production houses, NFDC has also organised a screenwriting workshop. In fact, an Amsterdam based international feature film development centre, the Binger Filmlab has taken this initiative to promote Indian talents.
Besides, there will be a “Work-in-progress Lab” where filmmakers can discuss about their ongoing projects with a panel of eminent filmmakers and critics and benefits from their feedback and suggestions.
