Contesting the Rajasthan Assembly elections in a magician's style

Jodhpur, Fri, 21 Nov 2008 ANI

Jodhpur, Nov.21 (ANI): There are many ways in which a candidate contesting elections draws the attention of voters. A novel way has been adopted by Gopal, who is contesting as an independent candidate.

He arrived to file his nomination papers at the electorate accompanied by a brigade of magicians and folk artistes.

His supporters performed Kachchi Ghori dance, accompanied by drums and beating of Thali (plate). Some of the artists were astride camels.

Popular artistes of Kalbalia party, others from Bhilwara and many other artistes from distant places accompanied him.

Gopal said he intended to promote art and draw attention towards artists' life by contesting in elections.

Equally amusing was his method of submitting the deposit money at the electorate office.

He placed the fees of rupees 2,500 (half of the normal because of being scheduled caste and tribe candidate) in coins instead of currency notes in a decorated plate.

"I will be working for Indian citizens, our Government always cribs about empty treasury boxes, but with my magical tricks I will be filling all the treasury boxes. I will also keep the environment green. I have two granddaughters and they collected money for my nomination by saving money in their piggy banks. I am confident of winning this year, I can give tough competition to any candidate," claimed magician Gopal.

Gopal is not the only one practising unique modes to memorise the voters.

Rajasthan State will go to polls on December 4 to elect 200 legislators for the State Assembly. The results will be declared on December 8. By Yogesh (ANI)
