Lucknow, Nov 13 (IANS) Hot oil from a cauldron was poured on a Class 4 student in an Uttar Pradesh school when the boy asked for lunch provided under the government-sponsored mid-day meal scheme, officials said Thursday.
Parents of the victim, residents of Taalagram village in Kannuaj district, alleged that a woman cook poured the hot oil on their child because he entered the school kitchen asking for the lunch, the officials said.
The incident took place Wednesday in the government-run Rasoolabad primary school in Kannauj, some 200 km from state capital Lucknow.
The child received minor injuries and was discharged from a hospital after first aid.
'We are inquiring into the case. Action would be taken against the cook, if found guilty,' H.S. Shakya, district in-charge of primary education, told IANS.
About 150,000 Uttar Pradesh schools are covered under the scheme. Free lunch is provided to students till Class 8.
Over 18.6 million students are enrolled under the scheme in the state, officials said.
