Pakistan could move up to fourth in ICC ODI Championship

Dubai, Nov 11 (ANI): Pakistan could move up to fourth in the Reliance Mobile ICC ODI Championship table if its beats the West Indies 3-0 in the upcoming series beginning on Wednesday in Abu Dhabi.

All the ODIs will be day and night matches and will take place at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi and if Shoaib Malik's men can win all three they will gain four ratings points and move above fifth-placed India and fourth-placed New Zealand.

However, with India playing England in a seven-match ODI series starting on Friday in Rajkot, those relative positions could change dramatically in the next couple of weeks.

But if the West Indies - currently in eighth place - wins the series 3-0 it will draw level with Pakistan on 103 ratings points so there is plenty at stake as the teams go head to head in the United Arab Emirates.

If the result of the series is 2-1 in Pakistan's favour, there will be no change with Pakistan and the West Indies remaining on 110 and 95 ratings points, respectively.

However, such is the weighted structure of the rankings with lower-ranked sides given credit for beating higher-placed opponents, a 2-1 victory for Chris Gayle's team would see it gain four ratings points up to 99 while Pakistan would lose three.

The ODI Championship is currently being led by Australia with South Africa in second place and England third. There are just 13 ratings points separating the Proteas from Sri Lanka in seventh illustrating how competitive the ICC ODI Championship is at present.

Meanwhile, individually, there is also plenty for the players to aim for in the Reliance Mobile ICC ODI Player Rankings.

Shoaib could make it into the top 10 in the batting list with a high-class performance across the three games. The 26-year-old is currently in 15th position but with that section of the rankings tightly packed, a big leap is not out of the question. (ANI)
