Lucknow, Nov 11 (IANS) A jackal killed an old man and injured 24 people in a village in Uttar Pradesh, state forest officials said Tuesday.

'We have learnt that the jackal attacked and injured several locals and killed an old man in Buxan village in Azamgarh district,' Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) P.S. Dubey told IANS.

On Monday, the jackal attacked Chandrapti, a resident of Buxan village, when the latter came to rescue his cattle from the wild animal, he added.

According to forest officials, the jackal has come from a nearby forest area Devgaon in Azamgarh, which is some 270 km from here.

'A team of forest officials have just been sent to trap the jackal,' Dubey said.

Fearing attacks by the jackal, the locals of Buxan village have moved out of their houses and are living in groups in open fields.
