Lucknow, Nov 10 (IANS) Unable to make their families agree to their plan to get married, a couple entered into a suicide pact in Auraiya town of Uttar Prdesh, the police said here Monday. The man first shot the woman dead and then killed himself.
Jaipal shot himself and Poonam in the Achaldaha locality of Auraiya, about 300 km from here.
'Poonam's father informed the police that she eloped with Jaipal in August but both soon returned home,' Additional Director General of Police (crime, law and order) Brijlal told reporters here.
Both later failed to convince their families to agree to their marriage plan.
In his complaint to the police, Poonam's father Sitaram said: 'Today in the morning, Jaipal called Poonam on the outskirts of the village and killed her. Fearing getting caught, he also killed himself.'
A few letters were found from the spot and the bodies have been sent for autopsy.
