Jannat: A journey to heaven through hell

Mahesh Bhatt's recently released movie Jannat worked out as a highly successful debut movie for many artists. Running successfully at the theatres, it presents the picture of a society where commercialisation and money has replaced all harmonious emotions, especially love. The protagonist of the story is Arjun (Emraan Hashmi) who is the doomed product of a diseased society.

He is obsessed with the mad lust for power, money and prestige. Although much hype is given to the movie featuring cricket as its central theme, the truth is that cricket and match-fixing is only a wall-paper scarcely able to come up and secure its position as the prominent theme. As Bhatt himself admits, match-fixing is just a part of the plot-development of the main stream story which accelerates the drama. During the course of events, from betting on matches, he turns a bookie and consequently updates himself by becoming a match-fixer.

His female companion Zoya (Sonal Chauhan) who becomes his love-mate after a chance-meeting in a mall, represents a completely different and opposite world of beliefs from Arjun, though ironically, she is at first, wooed and fascinated by the charms of fake show-offs of his boyfriend. But as everything is fair in love and war in the Bollywood cinema, the two lovebirds are all prepared to be trapped in the lovelock until reality dawns and fill their hearts with grief. On one side stands the hero, stuck up in the soul-piercing dilemma of choosing between love and wealth (in which any smart guy would have chosen the latter). On the other side, stands the heroine all against this foul play of acquiring easy money through illegal methods.

The debutante director Kunal Deshmukh has done a commendable job as far as the screenplay of the movie is concerned. The story is gripping, keep the audience stuck to their seats serving a chilling and fresh experience(as an inherent and peculiar trait of the Bhatts).The drama maintains the curiosity of the viewers as to what is in store for them in the next scene when the action of the story shifts to the Cape Town of South Africa.

As a whole the movie is a full entertainment package with some spicy stuff for the exhilarated audience bored with the repeated themes and stories. Don’t miss it out buddy......
