Vladimir Kramnik (Russia) won Sunday (October 27) his first game at the World Chess Championship 2008 to stay alive in the match. He defeated World Champion Viswanathan Anand (India) in the 10th game; Anand is one draw away to win the title.
After two hard fought battles that ended in draws in the last two games, Kramnik finally scored a fine victory over the defending champion Viswanathan. Anand had to resign the game after 29 moves.
However, with a lead of 6:4, the World Champion Viswanathan Anand needs just one draw from the last two games to keep the title, whereas Kramnik needs to win the remaining two games to send the match into a tie-breaker.
The 11th game of the 12-match final will start on Wednesday (October 29) after a rest day.
The final carries a purse of 1.5 million euros with both getting equal amounts despite of the result.
