In the 2008 World Chess Championship, the Indian Grandmaster Vishwanathan Anand has inched closer to retain his world title in a 39-move draw against Russian Vladimir Kramnik on Friday. The match was held in Bonn, Germany.
Anand who is leading the point table with 5.5 to Kramnik's 2.5 just needs one point to ensure the title.
With some ideal defensive moves, Anand didn’t allow the Russian for a win in the eighth game. The Indian is now ahead with a three-point lead over the Russian with four games to go.
The defending champion requires one win or two draws to retain his title. The Championship will continue on Sunday (October 26) with the game nine.
Earlier on Thursday, the seventh game of the championship had ended in a draw after 36 moves.
If Anand does it again, he will be the first person in chess history to win the World Championship in all formats of the game.
