Kozhikode, Oct 16 (IANS) Kerala police Thursday said there was 'no truth' in the charge that two of their men were taken off the security convoy of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader L.K. Advani on Tuesday because they were Muslims. Police said the men were not 'sufficiently qualified' to drive.
'There is no truth in the charge that the police drivers were removed from the convoy on the basis of their religion,' North Kerala Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) K.S. Jangpangi told reporters here.
He said several Muslim police personnel were deployed for security duty during Advani's visit to address a public meeting.
'If a controversy has been created (on taking the two Muslim drivers off duty), naturally somebody wants to play some game. It is very clear,' he said.
The Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) had Wednesday demanded an inquiry into the recall of the two drivers.
