Ranchi, Oct 16 (IANS) Suspected Maoist rebels have abducted four railway employees from McCluskieganj railway station of Jharkhand, police said Thursday.
According to police, the suspected rebels belonging to Communist Party of India - Maoist (CPI-Maoist) abducted the employees from McCluskieganj railway station, about 70 km from here, around 11.30 p.m. Wednesday. The station comes under Dhanbad railway division.
The four railway employees abducted include station master S.K. Singh, two deputy station masters and the guard of a goods train. In the past also, railway employees have been abducted by the suspected rebels.
'Police have launched an operation to search for the abducted railway employees,' said S.N. Pradhan, spokesperson of Jharkhand police.
In Jharkhand around 148 railway stations out of 292 are in Maoist infested areas of the state. Maoist rebels are active in 18 of its 24 districts. In the last seven years, more than 1,300 people including civilians and Maoist rebels have been killed.
