Jashpur, Jan 12 (ANI): Police arrested a Maoist in Chhattisgarh's Jashpur District on Wednesday and captured from him a country-made pistol, two live cartridges and two empty cartridges.
The arrest was made following a tip-off over Deepak's visit to see family in a nearby village.
Deepak was arrested after he tried to escape a police raid at his home. The Maoist opened fire on crime branch police officers and was shot in the leg before he was arrested.
Assistant Commissioner of Jashpur District Police, Sanjiv Shukla, said Deepak had been placed on a wanted list for his involvement in several crimes.
"He was initially involved in burning tractors. Since then he has continuously been involved in criminal activities. Cases of attempted murder, murder, threatening people, burning vehicles, have been registered against him. His name also surfaced in the recent killings in Jharkhand state," he said.
Shukla added that Deepak was also associated with extremist organization the People's Liberation Front of India. (ANI)
