New Delhi, Jan 10 (ANI): Sportspersons from different disciplines came together at the 'Khushi Punarvass Yojna 2012', an environment health meet, to help out the victims of a earthquake that hit Sikkim last year.
The event, an initiative of the Environmental Health Club of the Khushi Centre for Rehabilitation and Research, was organised to develop resources to generate healthy living for the catastrophe ridden population of Sikkim with a focus on women and children.
Cricketer Yuvraj Singh donated one of his bats, while Ashish Nehra his donated India jersey. Shooter Ronjan Sodhi donated his shooting jacket, while pugilists Vijender Singh and Mary Kom gave away their boxing gloves at an auction organised to raise funds for the cause.
Speaking at the event veteran football star Bhaichung Bhutia said that he was grateful to the Indian sports stars for their invaluable support and also expressed gratitude to the Khushi Centre for organising the auction of the memorabilia.
"I wish 'Khushi' good luck for what they are doing. Also to all my sportsperson colleagues who donated the memorabilia to 'Khushi' for the auction. I think it's going into a great cause and benefit a lot of people who have been affected by the earthquake in Sikkim," Bhutia said.
The 6.9 magnitude earthquake which had its epicenter in Sikkim, killed at least 100 people and left many, including 400 foreigners, stranded in far-flung areas.
It is believed to have caused damage worth 21 billion dollars in Sikkim alone. (ANI)
