Lucknow, Jan 8 (ANI): Ahead of assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh formal orders have been issued by the Election Commission to swathe the statues of BSP head and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister, Mayawati as well as the party symbol 'elephant' put up across the state in recent years.
Labourers in Lucknow city were seen covering the statues of Mayawati and her party symbol, elephant.
This move of Election Commission just a month prior to state assembly elections is assumed to be a major setback to Mayawati.
Last year, Mayawati had inaugurated the 33-acre park named after lower caste icon B. R. Ambedkar in Noida.
The park, which was built from the government exchequer by spending Rs 650 crore, has statues of elephants, B. R. Ambedkar, Kanshi Ram and Mayawati herself. (ANI)
