Ralegan Siddhi, Dec 26 (ANI): Residents of Ralegan Siddhi, native village of veteran social activist Anna Hazare in Maharashtra extended support to anti-graft crusader in his fight against corruption.
Villagers said that they vow to sit on fast in their village temple to support and express solidarity with Hazare's movement.
"We will sit on fast in the Yadavbaba temple in support of Anna, the way we supported him earlier in his fight against corruption. Similarly, Anna will sit on fast there and we will sit on fast in Yadavbaba temple and we will also follow his directions of jail Bharo movement," said Kavita Suresh, a villager.
Villagers also said they would continue with their fast for three days, in accord with Hazare's fast and will carry out a candle march every evening.
"The whole village has started preparations for supporting Anna in his fight. The whole village will gather in Yadavbaba temple tomorrow at 7 in the morning and will sit for hunger strike. The hunger strike will end at 5 in the evening, then the villagers will take out a candle march from Padmavati temple to Yadavbaba temple. This program will continue for three days," said Sampat Rao, another Hazare supporter.
Hazare, who has termed the Lokpal Bill drafted by the government to be weak, will be sitting on a three-day token fast in Mumbai to mount pressure on the Centre to bring in a strong anti-graft legislation.
The government introduced the new version of the Lokpal Bill in Lok Sabha on Thursday after a lengthy debate during which almost all parties opposed the introduction of the Bill in its current form.
The Union Cabinet had earlier on Tuesday approved the Bill for creation of the Lokpal with Constitutional status.
The fresh Bill allows the Lokpal to oversee investigation of cases referred by it by the CBI. But, the Bill clearly mentions that CBI will continue to be under the government's administrative control. (ANI)
