Pak says deadly November 26 NATO airstrike 'gross violation of UN charter'

New York, Tue, 20 Dec 2011 ANI

New York, Dec 20(ANI): Pakistan's Acting Permanent Representative at the UN Security Council, Raza Bashir Tarar has opposed the deadly November 26 NATO airstrike and described the incident as a gross violation of the UN Charter.

About 28 soldiers were killed when NATO launched an airstrike in Mohmand Agency on November 26.

Tarar said the act also violated Pakistan's territorial integrity.

He said Pakistan is committed to maintaining peace and stability and therefore could not be blamed for the problems confronting Afghanistan.

Tarar said Pakistan wants contribute towards peace process in Afghanistan on the basis of mutual respect and trust.

"Speculative statements made in a knee-jerk reaction vitiate the atmosphere and erode mutual trust. Such blame-game must stop," The News quoted Tarar, as saying.

He said Pakistan hopes that the review of UNAMA's mandate will enable the UN to make more meaningful contributions to peace and development of Afghanistan.(ANI)
