The World no. 2 British Player James Willstrop has become the new champion of Punj Llyod PSA Cup 2011 on Sunday evening without completing the match, as his opponent world no. 3 Gregory Gaultier (French) withdraw his name due to getting injury.
The match was played at Siri Fort Sports Complex in New Delhi on 18 December 2011.
Gaultier could not continue the match after three sets due to cramps in both the legs and tear in cortisone muscle.
Willtrop, who was last year's runner up has this time managed to win the title due stronger stamina, and consistent excellent performance. However, he got stiff competition from his rival and lost the first set 19-21 that continues for 59 minutes, a world a record in the history of modern squash.
James bounce back in the second set and kept his mind cool. He waited for his rival's error and got the reward. Gaultier started cramps in this set that forced him for unwanted errors and he lost the set 8-11.
In the third set, Gaultier's injury got worse and he took three-minute recovery time. He came back with some pace but that could not win the set. Eventually, he lost the game 4-11.
In the fourth set Gaultier pull out from the match due to worsening injury.
James won US $ 24,938 (Rs 13,09,869) of prize money while Gaultier received $ 16,388 (Rs 8,60,780).
James Willstrop (ENG) beat Gregory Gaultier (FRA) 3-1 (19-21, 11-8, 11-4), 99 mins (withdrawn).
