Ahmedabad, Dec 18 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) veteran Lal Krishna Advani on Sunday said the Lokpal Bill would be framed by Parliament and not by any other entity.
"I want to say that the Lokpal law should be framed. The Lokpal law should be robust and effective. There are no two opinions about it. But the Lokpal Bill will be framed by Parliament and not by others," he told the media here.
Advani said that the Central Government had decided to bring the Prime Minister's office under the ambit of the anti-graft legislation with some riders.
"We have got information that the federal government has decided to bring the Prime Minister's office under the ambit of it with some riders. On the whole, I want to say that it will be decided by Parliament what shape is given to it," he added.
Despite assurances from Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh that the government is committed to bring in a strong and effective Lokpal Bill in the ongoing Winter Session of Parliament, Hazare has threatened to go on an indefinite fast from December 27 at the Ramlila Maidan in New Delhi if a strong anti-graft bill is not passed in the ongoing Winter Session of Parliament.
Meanwhile, the Union Cabinet is expected to meet in New Delhi this evening to discuss the proposed legislation before it is introduced in Parliament on Monday. (ANI)
