Guwahati, Dec 16 (ANI): the tenth edition of the Assam Mahotsav, a two week long annual fair was organized in Jorhat providing a window to the culture of the state.
The focus this year was on the Sonwal Kachari Community.
The traders from the Sonwal Kachari Autonomous Council exhibited indigenous products of the community at the fair.
The autonomous council was formed in 2005 and is concentrated in Tinsukia, Dhemaji, Dibrugarh, Lakhimpur and Jorhat.
"I am grateful to the organizers of the 10th Assam Mahotsav, as they have provided us a great chance to raise awareness about Sonawal Kachari Autonomous Council (SKAC). Through this fair we can showcase our lifestyle, culture, and customs," said Basanta Sonowal, a participant from Dibrugarh.
More than 180 stalls were set up at the fair by participants from different parts of the country.
The fair was organized under the aegis of the state government.
"We are promoting the traditions and culture of various communities of Assam and the Northeast and we find that people have got a platform to exhibit their handicrafts and handloom products," said Mousomi Sarma, one of the organisers. (ANI)
