Manipuris agitate for release of persons abducted by militants

Imphal, Dec 16 (ANI): Angry residents condemned the kidnapping of two family members by militants from Irilbung Awangching area in Manipur and demanded their safe release.

 

The militants who kidnapped Soram Ibomcha Singh, an employee of Public Health Engineering Department and his son Geetchandra Singh, have demanded a ransom of 20 lakh rupees for their release.

 

The incident has traumatized the family.

 

"We cannot live peacefully. I am thinking about them the whole day and feel worried. I request the PHED Department to put more pressure so that their safe release can be negotiated. I appeal to the abductors to send them back safely," said Papki Devi, Soram's wife.

 

A complaint has been filed in the local police station who suspect the hand of Kangleipak Communist Party's mobile task force behind the abduction.

 

"The kidnappers belong to the KCP (MTF). They are working under the leadership of Kesho Meitei. They have kidnapped them for ransom," said L Heramani Singh, Investigating Officer.he incident has provoked anger amongst the people living in the area.

 

Residents vented their anger during a demonstration and demanded immediate action against the militants.

 

"Militants should understand the pain and suffering of the family members. Both are innocent. Ibomcha is just a gatekeeper, earning very little money, moreover he is very sick. Why are militants demanding such a huge ransom from the poor families? We strongly condemn these activities and do not want such this things to happen again," said N Chandrabali Devi, a protestor.
