Gumla, Dec 9 (ANI): Maoist ultras on Thursday gunned down two innocent persons in Basia village in Jharkhand's Gumla District.
Police Inspector of Basia, D P Singh told the reporters that Maoists had come to kill a particular person but the targeted person evaded the assault and managed to flee on a motorcycle as two innocent villagers fell prey to Maoists' bullets.
"The person whom they had come to kill fled. When they fired the first bullet, it hit a hotel helper. After that they ran after the person and fired another second bullet that hit a woman. After that the person sped away from the spot on his motorcycle," said Singh.
The police authorities have beefed up the security after the incident although no arrests have been made so far.
Relatives of the deceased have sought help from the government. The villagers lamented that Maoist atrocities have reached the peak and the government ought to act on a stern note.
The recent increase in the Maoist attacks has adversely hit development activities in the affected regions of Jharkhand. (ANI)
