Amritsar, Nov.30 (ANI): Religious bodies representing the Sikh community have appealed to both Pakistan Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani and India's Home Minister P. Chidambaram to expedite access to Gurdwara Kartarpur Sahib.
Stating that the opening of such a passage would be an ideal confidence building measure (CBM) between Islamabad and New Delhi, the Sikh bodies said there was a need for both governments to concretize the proposal sooner than later.
Parmjit Singh Sarna, the president of the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC), said no concrete decision has been taken so far on this Sikh Sangat demand.
Talking to ANI, Sarna said that he would personally hand over a letter to Pakistan's High Commissioner to India Shahid Malik, communicating this demand.
Earlier this month, a Sikh delegation had been assured by Prime Minister Gilani that all arrangements for the opening of corridor had been made.
Dr. Pritpal Singh, coordinator, American Gurdwara Parbhandhak Committee (AGPC) in his letter to Gilani said the corridor between Gurdwara Kartarpur Sahib and Dera Baba Nanak would enable the pilgrims to pay obeisance to the Sikh shrines situated both sides. (ANI)
