Kullu, Nov 30 (ANI): A severe cold wave has gripped the state of Himachal Pradesh, forcing residents to remain indoors.
With the mercury dipping, a common sight at homes is most of the family members squatting around Bukhari (an indigenous wood fired furnace) for warmth.
As on Tuesday, the minimum temperature in Kullu town had touched the freezing point while the maximum temperature recorded was 12 degree Celsius.
Residents stated that during the winter season, commuting becomes difficult particularly when the snowfall is heavy.
Other than tending the apple orchards, there is not much work to do and this scenario has resulted in only expenses sans any income, an elderly resident commented.
"After the snowfall, we are experiencing cold wave in our hilly region. Locals use wood fired Bukhari to keep themselves warm. They warm their hands with the help of this. We don't go out for work and our only work is to warm ourselves under the sun. There is no source of income as there is no cultivation. In winters we only spend a lot and there is no source of income and that is the state of affairs here," said Bir Kahan Dass, a resident.
Dass also stated that in the absence of rain, a significant dip in temperature has been witnessed in the Kullu region of the state.
Cold wave has already swept many parts of north Indian states. Thick fog at dawn and dusk has resulted in delay of flights and several trains either running late or being cancelled. (ANI)
