Abbottabad Commission summons Haqqani to investigate memo scandal over Osama's killing

Islamabad, Tue, 29 Nov 2011 ANI

Islamabad, Nov 29 (ANI): The commission investigating the US military raid, which killed former al-Qaeda leader Osama Bin Laden in his Abbottabad hideout and his presence in the country, has reportedly summoned the country's former US ambassador Hussain Haqqani to throw more light on the issue.

Bin Laden was killed in Abbottabad on May 2 after the US Navy Seals stormed into his hideout without allegedly informing Pakistan about it. The act was condemned in the Asian country.

Pakistan Prime Minister Yousuf Raja Gulani had set up a five-member inquiry commission under a Supreme Court judge to probe into the incident.

The commission will interview Haqqani during a meeting on December 14, the Daily Times quoted a commission statement, as saying.

Haqqani had resigned earlier this month after a Pakistani-American businessman Mansoor Ijaz alleged that he was asked by Haqqani to deliver a memo to the former US Joint Chiefs of Staff Mike Mullen from President Asif Ali Zardari, seeking US help to stop a military coup after bin Laden's death.

Haqqani was summoned by Gilani and is now being investigated about the memo, which has created a political uproar in the country. (ANI)
