Chennai, Nov. 21 (ANI): Activists of the Democratic Youth Federation of India took to the streets here on Monday to protest against the recent increase in the price of milk and bus fare.
The protestors raised slogans against the Tamil Nadu Government, as the security personnel tried to alleviate the situation.
President of the Chennai arm of the Democratic Youth Federation of India, Lenin, expressing his anger over the price hikes said that it would affect the common man on the street.
"We are demanding that the government should get back (rollback) the price hike of milk and bus fare. The government has hiked it very much. They are giving milk rate to the concerned person of 2 rupees and getting 6 rupees from the public. They have also hiked the bus fare to highest level, more than double the amount of the earlier bus ticket," said Lenin.
"So, we demand that the government should get back this. It is probably affecting the people again and again. So, we demand to get back this price hike," he added.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa has, however, justified the price rise and said the decision was to revive the milk producers' co-operative societies, Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (TANGEDCO) and transport undertakings that were on the verge of going bankrupt. (ANI)
