Siliguri (West Bengal), Nov.10 (ANI): The 'Eastern Mountain Safari' a car rally began in Siliguri, West Bengal, on Thursday.
The participants would cover a distance of 400 kilometres and would conclude in Siliguri.
The rally also saw the active participation of racing enthusiasts from the Indian Army.
Organisers said such motor sports promote adventure and tourism.
"Basically mountain safari, we wanted to bring the cars in the east as they have in the north like Raid de Himalaya and all. We have nice terrains over here in the east, especially in the eastern Himalayas. So this is good and for first time in eastern India we have entries from all over the country," said one of the organisers.
The cars will pass through rugged and inhospitable terrains of eastern Himalayas.
The participants said that the tough circuit would pose many challenges, requiring focus and determination on the part of the car drivers.
"I have come from Goa. This way they are going to upgrade motor sports in India. People have come from different places and this would increase the revenue of the state," said Amal Anil Satoskar, a participant.
Participants also thanked the organisers for hosting such an event.
