Imphal, Nov 5 (ANI): Nagas torched three vehicles and damaged three others for defying shutdown call in Manipur on Friday.
The incident took place at the Noneh Bazar Bridge.
Bijen Singh, a driver, said he saw two Sumos burning as police commandos fired teargas shells.
"They threw stones at us. Then, armed police personnel, commandos, came and fired teargas and took us to the other side. I saw two burnt Sumo jeeps," said Singh.
This untoward incident took place just a day after Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram and Manipur Chief Minister, Okram Ibobi Singh appealed to the agitators of the United Naga Council (UNC) and the All Naga Students Association Manipur (ANSAM) to withdraw their economic blockade.
The blockade which has been lifted partially, has been in place over a Kuki tribal demand of creating Sadar Hill area in Naga majority Senapati district as separate district. (ANI)
