Israel reportedly planning military strike to neutralize Iran's nuke facilities

Washington, Thu, 03 Nov 2011 ANI

Washington, Nov 3 (ANI): Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is reportedly trying to hatch plans of launching a military attack on Iran's nuclear facilities.

According to a Sky News report, Defense Minister Ehud Barak and Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman are among those backing a pre-emptive strike to neutralize Iran's nuclear ambitions.

In response to reports of an effort to gain cabinet approval for Netanyahu's proposal, Lieberman said that, "Tehran poses the most dangerous threat to world order."

He added that Israel's military options should not be a matter for public discussion, Fox News reports.

In the wake of Netanyahu's proposal Hassan Firouzabadi, Iran's chairman of the joint chiefs of staff of Iran's armed forces, warned that an Israeli attack on the Islamic nation's nuclear development sites "would inflict heavy damages on the aggressors."

"The US officials know that the Zionist regime's military attack against Iran will inflict heavy damages to the US seriously, as well as the Zionist regime," Firouzabadi said.

Iran has always maintained that its nuclear program is meant only to produce energy for the oil-rich country.

It has blamed Israel for disruptions in its nuclear program in the past, including the mysterious assassinations of a string of Iranian nuclear scientists and a computer virus that wiped out some of Iran's nuclear centrifuges. (ANI)
