Kabbadi World Cup starts in Bhatinda

Amritsar/Bhatinda, Nov 2 (ANI): The second edition of Kabbadi World Cup started here on Tuesday with fourteen countries including teams from Argentina, Pakistan, USA, Canada, UK, Italy, Norway, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, Australia, Germany, Spain and hosts India taking part men's category.

 

The kabbadi world cup begins from November 1 and will go on till 20th November with a prize money of rupees two crores for the winning team.

 

The previous world cup was won by India defeating Pakistan 58-24, in the finals.

 

The Pakistani kabbadi team also arrived at Amritsar on Tuesday to participate in the second Kabbadi World Cup being held in the city.

 

Pakistan captain Sadiq Butt said they are determined to win the trophy this time after finishing runners-up in the last World Cup.

 

Butt said that events such as these are beneficial for players and they should be organised regularly.

 

"Such events are beneficial for players and they should be organised regularly. The team is fit and God willing we will try to put up our best performance and win," said Butt.

 

Butt's teammate Mohammed Irfan said that the previous opening ceremony was very special as Bollywood actor Sunny Deol was present during the occasion. He said he is looking forward to the upcoming event as Bollywood star Shahrukh Khan is scheduled to appear at the opening ceremony.

 

"The previous opening ceremony was very nice because Sunny Deol and Dharmendra were present. This time Shahrukh Khan will be coming, so that will be even more fun. In Pakistan, many people will watch the event on television, especially the opening ceremony," said Irfan.

 

Later in the day, Bollywood actor, Shah Rukh Khan, took the stage to mark the opening of the World Cup which also featured Indian origin wrestler the Great Khali.(ANI)
