China`s repression in Tibet getting worse by the day, says Lobsang Sangay

Dharamshala, Oct 13 (ANI): Tibetan Prime Minister-in-exile Lobsang Sangay has said that China's repression in Tibet is getting worse by each passing day.

"Since the 2008 uprising in Tibet, the situation in Tibet has been getting worse. Particularly as of March this year it has become even more tense and urgent with the increasing cases of self-immolation by young Tibetans who find China's occupation and repression in Tibet intolerable. Tibetans are driven to these drastic acts to resist political repression, cultural assimilation, economic marginalisation and environmental destruction," Sangay told the media here.

Two young men in southwestern China had set themselves on fire on October 7 protesting against Chinese rule in Tibet.

Choepel, 19, and Khayang, 18, are believed to have previously been Buddhist monks at the Kirti Monastery in Aba prefecture, Sichuan province

While talking about the safety and welfare of such victims, Sangay also pleaded to the United Nations and other countries to support the Tibetan freedom struggle.

"The Central Tibetan Administration is deeply concerned about their whereabouts and well being. We express our solidarity for all those who lost their lives and with all other Tibetans who are incarcerated for their courage to speak for the right of the Tibetan people. We appeal to the United Nations, freedom loving countries and people around the world to show their support and solidarity with the Tibetans at this critical age," he added.

He also said that the Tibetans all over the world will hold special prayers on October 19 as a sign of support for the Tibetans in Tibet.

" The Central Tibetan Administration will offer daylong prayers and encourage all Tibetans to fast on that day as a gesture of solidarity with Tibetans in Tibet. To our brothers and sisters in Tibet, we stand with you in fulfilling our aspirations and we share the pain of your sacrifice," said Sangay. (ANI)
