Onboard, Mon, 10 Oct 2011 ANI

Onboard/Ankara, Oct 10 (ANI): Asserting that terrorism is a matter of universal concern, Vice President Mohammad Hamid Ansari has emphasized on the need for developing an elaborate mechanism with different nations to deal with this menace.

"Everybody wants to combat terrorism, now we don't need anybody's help to combat terrorism, but we do as we do with all other countries in the world, we do need a mechanism for exchange of relevant information, that is what the purpose of all these joint terror groups to counter terrorism is," Vice President Ansari told media persons onboard on his way to Ankara.

"We already have a mechanism on cooperation in the area of counter-terrorism between the NSA and its counterpart there. So, this is a matter of universal concern, but specifically with Turkey, we have a working mechanism," he added.

He asserted that Afghanistan is a subject on which everybody wants to be helpful.

"Another aspect, which is nearer to us is Afghanistan where Turks have been playing an active role. They had a conference in Istanbul. There is another one coming up in Istanbul and very soon a conference is coming up in Berne. Now, the External Affairs Minister would be coming to the conference in Istanbul. We would also be attending the conference in Berne also. So, Afghanistan is a subject on which everybody wants to be helpful, it is another matter that we have all tried and only reached a certain point," said Vice President Ansari.

"Our own relations with Afghanistan are very well known. President Karzai was in Delhi a few days back, we signed a strategic relationship agreement with him. So, these are the basic areas, the exchange of visits, the exchange of views on developments in the region and a more vibrant commercial economic," he added.

Vice President Ansari arrived in Ankara on a five-day visit to Turkey today, with economic ties and terrorism being high on his agenda.

Ansari will first visit Turkish capital Ankara, where he will hold delegation-level talks with Speaker of the Turkish National Assembly Camil Cicek and other lawmakers.

Ansari will also pay homage at the memorial of the founder of the Republic of Turkey, Mustafa Kemal Ataturk in Ankara and will also visit the provinces of Konya and Nevsesir.

He will address a Business Forum at the Turkish Chamber of Businessmen and Industrialists in Istanbul.

While in Konya, Ansari will be conferred with an Honorary Doctorate for International Relations by the Mevlana University. By Praful Kumar Singh(ANI)
