Islamabad, Oct 8(ANI): The Pakistan Army is ready to address US concerns vis-?-vis the Haqqani network, but shows no signs of going after them in North Waziristan, where the insurgent group is believed to be headquartered.
At a meeting in Rawalpindi, top military commanders expressed their willingness to lower tensions with the United States by narrowing down differences on the Haqqani network.
"Pakistan wants a constructive engagement with the United States to deal with the Haqqani issue," The Express Tribune quoted an official familiar with the development, as saying.
The official, speaking on the condition of anonymity, ruled out the possibility of a military operation in North Waziristan- a region dubbed by the US as the most dangerous place on earth.
"Use of force is not the answer to every problem," he said, repeating the recent statement of Pakistan Army chief General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani.
"Military operation is not a solution to every problem. We're done with those operations where we had to. Now it's the duty of civilian government to establish its writ and run the affairs," Kayani was quoted as saying earlier this week.
Kayani had made these remarks after a ceremony held in connection with the Saudi-Pak joint military exercise, Samsaam IV, at Mangla Cantonment, a few kilometres from Jehlum, one of Pakistan's largest cantonment areas.
Meanwhile, the US Ambassador to Pakistan, Cameron Munter, met with Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar to discuss the ongoing tensions between both nations.
"Bilateral relations and the regional situation were discussed. Both agreed to work together for strengthening bilateral cooperation and for coordination on regional issues," said a brief statement issued by the Foreign Office.
An American diplomat commenting on the meeting said that the two countries were making efforts to sort out their differences. (ANI)
