Karnal, Oct 6 (ANI): Jubilant family members of Jai Bhagwan, who secured an Olympic berth in the 2012 London Games, celebrated his achievement at their Karnal home.
Bhagwan achieved the feat after beating seventh seed David Joyce of Ireland 32-30, in the 60 kilograms category, on points to enter the quarterfinals of the World Boxing Championship in Baku, Azerbaijan.
"It is a moment of pride for all us. We are now hoping that he wins a gold medal at Olympic Games and lifts the Indian tri-colour to new heights. This is his desire, he even dreams of lifting the Indian flag to new heights said Rajpal, Bhagwan's father."Our happiness has no limits right now. We are thankful to god who guided our son to Olympic qualification and will also lead him to an Olympic gold," he added.
Jai Bhagwan was joined by Devendro Singh (49 kilograms) and Manoj Kumar (64 kilograms) who also qualified for the London Olympics with contrasting victories at the World Boxing Championships.
Top 10 boxers from the 49 kilogram to 81 kilogram category will make the Olympic cut while boxers in the 91 kilogram and +91kg category will have to finish among the top six to book their London tickets, in this tournament. (ANI)
