Peshawar, Sept 27(ANI): Pakistan's women legislators of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, who are mostly elected on reserved seats, have revealed that they are discriminated against compared to their male counterparts in the parliamentary session, and consequently get comparatively less time to convey their views.
"We are not decoration pieces; we are legislators and want to be treated as such," a Pakistan People's Party member, Noor Sahar said.
She also said male members resisted every bill pushed by their women counterparts, the Dawn reports.
She claimed Speaker Kiramatullah Khan Chagharmati 'snubbed' her in the current session when she wanted to refer her question to the committee concerned.
"The Speaker warned me to stay quiet if you know what respect is," she said.
"Not at all. I don't discriminate. If women take part in a constructive discussion I do not. I am a broad-minded person," Chagharmati said, countering allegations against him.
Pakistan Muslim League-Q member Nighat Aurakzai said male parliamentarians demanded perks and privileges only for 99 male members and excluded 25 women legislators.
"They (male members) are not willing to give us a chance. We have to snatch our right to speak," she said.
Awami National Party member Munawar Sultana said women only speak up in the session when party elders allow them.
"We work keeping in view our Pukhto (code of life) and don't just make a noise," she said. (ANI)
