London, Sept 25 (ANI): Colin Firth is said to have made a secret visit to former prisoner of war, Eric Lomax, he will be playing in his next film.

The 51-year-old actor made a 650-mile round trip from London to have tea with the 92-year-old at his home in Berwick-upon-Tweed, Northumberland and found his life as "an extraordinary story".

The former British army officer was s Second Lieutenant with the Royal Signals in the Second World War and was tortured by the Japanese while being made to work on the "death railway" between Thailand and Burma, where thousand of Lomax's allies died while building the line.

The Japanese military police also broke his arms during a week-long ordeal in which he was often beaten unconscious at the Sakamoto Butai camp in Thailand, where a radio and escape map had been found.

After the war ended, Lomax was filled with hate, particularly for Nagase Takashi, the interpreter who interrogated him and tracked down him in 1988, after which they met on the bridge over the River Kwai and was forgiven by the victim.

The movie is based on Lomax's own bestselling book 'The Railway Man', which will trace his battle to track down his tormentors and to cope with his life at home.

'The King's Speech' star has admitted that he will not be the actor depicting him as a prisoner close to death from starvation.

"My character's story occupies Britain, and precisely Berwick. You will see the scenes that take place during the war, but obviously someone else will be doing that," the Daily Express quoted Firth as saying. (ANI)
