Coimbatore, Sep 19 (ANI): The Ministry of Textiles has initiated a unique programme to provide women with an opportunity to become self-sufficient.
The programme, which aims to offer various skills to women, including training in printing, embroidery, CAD designing and tailoring to uplift their status in society, is presently being conducted in Tamil Nadu's Coimbatore city.
This programme also targets women who can become entrepreneurs and over 300 women have completed the course successfully.
"Under Integrated skill upgradation training programme, sponsored by the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, we are offering training programmes under skill development category," said Project Director G. Thilagawathi.
"The training programmes are offered in various areas like tailoring, printing, embroidery and computer aided design (CAD), we are offering this programme for the past two and a half years. Totally 300 people have benefited from this programme," Thilagawathi added.
Many other women vouched for the success and positive results of the programme. A housewife, who had completed the course, said that she had only completed high school and was unable to find employment.
She revealed that the training had made her more confident and well equipped to start a business of her own. She added that she now believed that women could delve in any kind of work generally seen as a man's domain.
"Unemployment problems are growing day by day. Even though a woman can work with minimum qualifications, she cannot earn more, so I thought why cannot a woman do business in printing, embroidery, and tailoring, and so I joined the free training scheme provided here. I learnt tailoring, printing, CAD and embroidery. Now, with these skills, I can provide jobs to many women," said Lalitha, a student.
The training programme is run free of cost to the participants. The duration of the course is around 4 months with a stipend of rupees eight thousand being meted out to every participant. (ANI)
