London, Sept 13 (ANI): Actresses-turned-designers Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen have become the new creative directors of Superga, the Italian tennis shoe brand.
Superga, based in Turin and named after a small hill town nearby, was founded in 1911 and has built a reputation for unfussy "people's shoes of Italy."
As the brand's new creative directors, the blonde twins will not only push the shoes into some of the most exclusive stores around, but also will design and launch a line to be co-branded with their high-end fashion house, The Row.
Footwear retailer Steve Madden, who already works with the Olsens on a footwear range for their Elizabeth and James label, also owns the North American Superga license.
"We were at a meeting with Steve and we were wearing Supergas - two years later it kind of fell into our lap," the Daily Mail quoted Ashley as telling Women's Wear Daily.
"I really don't think there's anything like this brand. It's a tennis-shoe brand with 100 years under its belt," she added.
Though the twins say they "look at a million opportunities a day; it's very personal for us," there are no plans to move the Superga label beyond footwear.
According to the fashion newspaper, the Olsen's Superga line is set to launch in spring 2011. (ANI)
