Coimbatore, Sep.9 (ANI): Devotees here have built a temple dedicated to the late spiritual leader Sathya Sai Baba.

Speaking to mediapersons, Narayana, a devotee, pointed out that while numerous temples were dedicated to the 'Shirdi Sai Baba' (a spiritual saint of the early 20th century whose shrine is loated in Maharashtra) across the country, this temple was one of a kind as it was one of the few dedicated to Sathya Sai Baba of Puttaparthi.

"We have many temples for Bhagwan (god) Shri Shirdi Sai Baba all over India, all over the world. Now this is the first time, we presume, we have constructed a temple for Bhagwan Shri Sathya Sai Baba (Indian spiritual leader) of our Puttaparthi (situated in the Anantapur district of India's southern Andhra Pradesh state) here in Coimbatore, Swagatham Sai Mandir premises," said Narayana.

Sathya Sai Baba claimed to be a reincarnation of Shirdi Sai Baba.

The devout follower of the late spiritual leader also revealed that 'Kumbhabhishekam' (consecration) of the statue had been performed with all traditional Hindu rituals. The statue was made of 'makrana' marbles of Jaipur.

The height of the statue was three feet and nine inches and weighed nearly 600 kilograms.

"The idea of the temple started on May 19 when we all decided as devotees to construct a separate mandir (temple) for our beloved Swami. Swami passed away on April 24 and we thought that we should retain Swami in our hearts, purely out of our devotion to Swami in this form. So, we decided to go ahead and this is the outcome that you (world) see here," he added.

Devotees were seen performing various rituals in the temple.

Sathya Sai Baba was born as Sathyanarayana Raju. He was a spiritual figure, mystic, philanthropist, and an educator.

His numerous followers, estimated to number six million, included top Indian politicians, business tycoons and Bollywoods stars. (ANI)
