Wozniacki fights hard to reach US Open quarterfinals

New York, Tue, 06 Sep 2011 ANI

New York, Sep 6(ANI): World No.1 Caroline Wozniacki was two games away from being knocked out from the US Open by Svetlana Kuznetsova before roaring back to reach the quarterfinals.

Kuznetsova won six of the last seven points of their first-set tiebreaker and led 4-1 in the second set before Wozniacki recovered for a 6-7, 7-5, 6-1, win at New York's Arthur Ashe Stadium.

"I thought about the match we played against each other here in 2009. I was a set and down in the second in that one and still won," ABC News quoted Wozniacki, as saying.

"I knew I could come back so I just stepped into the lines and went for my shots, tried to make fewer errors. I am in good shape. I can play for five hours if I have to. I just wanted to keep the rallies going," he added.

Wozniacki will now tackle Germany's Andrea Petkovic for a place in the semi-finals.

Petkovic had earlier registered a 6-1, 6-4, win over Carla Suarez Navarro in her fourth-round match. (ANI)
