New Delhi, Sep 4(ANI): In an endeavour to spread the message of safe driving, Delhi Mayor Rajni Abbi flagged off the 11th family mega car rally here today.
The participants took part in different categories like Best Modified Car, Fancy Dress, Best Woman Novice, Best Youngest Woman Driver, Best Decorated Car and Best Oldest Woman Driver.
"This is not a race; it's a rally. So, it gives a message for everybody, safe driving, lane driving and proper driving. This should be a message, which they should spread across Delhi," Abbi said.
The main objective of the rally, which is organzed every year in September since 2001, is to strengthen the bond among the family members and spread happiness and joy in the society.ne of the rally participants praised the diversity and unique culture of India.
"I have decorated my car in such a way that I wanted to show to the people of Delhi that in incredible India the people are very good, the culture is very good, beautiful places to be seen and I want the people from all walks of life to come and enjoy India. India is very beautiful country. I love my country," said a participant, K. Viswanathan.
According to the Global Status Report on Road Safety by World Health Organization (WHO), India has the highest number of road accidents in the world, resulting in over 130,000 deaths annually.
The report pointed that the main factors responsible for the rising number of accidents were speeding, drunken driving and less use of helmets, seat belts and underage driving. (ANI)
