New Delhi: To give a competitive edge to the ayurvedic drug industry, the government has announced voluntary quality certification. The Indian ayurvedic industry that has become a 10,000 crore industry, a certification will certainly boost its prospect in international market. Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare S. Gandhiselvan made this declaration in the Rajya Sabha in answer to a written question.
He also said that the department of AYUSH (Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy) in collaboration with the Quality Council of India would issue the certificate. Ayush, which comes under the health ministry, has issued certificates to eight ayurvedic companies.
‘This certification would enable industry to demonstrate compliance to international norms through independent, third party certification which would facilitate exports,’ said the minister.
