Muscat, August 30 (ANI): The Andhra Pradesh High Court has issued a notice to Qatar Airways following a petition seeking compensation for the death of an Indian housemaid.
The court has also issued notices to various government departments and Indian embassy in Muscat.
The housemaid, Beebi Lomada died after being stranded in the transit area of Muscat airport for five days in October last year.
Beebi, who was travelling by Qatar Airways from Muscat to Chennai, lost her passport during transit in Doha. The airline sent her back to port of origin, Muscat. She spent five days at the Muscat transit lounge, waiting for the Indian embassy officials to issue her out pass or any other travelling documents.
P Narayana Swami, President of Migrants Rights in Andhra Pradesh, has filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL), seeking exemplary compensation, prosecution of Qatar Airways officials as well as officials of the Indian Embassy in Muscat.
