Now, a gadget to cook your favourite crisps with just a fraction of calories

London, August 21 (ANI): A new kitchen gadget, which entered the UK markets a week ago, has become an instant hit with crisps' lovers who also want to watch their calories.

It can prepare your favourite nibble within minutes - and with a fraction of the calories of normal crisps.

Creators of the Microwave Crisp Maker say it is the perfect way to control how much salt and fat goes into your snacks, reports the Daily Mail.

Whereas crisps are usually made from frying or baking potatoes in lashings of oil, the gadget relies on a microwave for cooking.

It also allows users to sprinkle as little or as much salt as they wish.

The circular gadget, which can make up to 24 crisps at a time, has a slicer in its lid, so the user can cut even, thin slivers. Once sliced, the potato pieces fall into the collection bowl below and can then be arranged in the cooking rack.fter four or five minutes in the microwave, the pieces should be crunchy and can be sprinkled with salt or other flavourings.

Thanks to the microwave, no oil is required, meaning the fat content is the same as the potato - around 130 calories, or 0g fat, for a medium-sized potato. This is considerably less than the 190 calories or 11g of fat found in a packet of crisps.

And for an even healthier option, a sweet potato - just 114 calories for one serving - could be used.

The 7.99 pounds worth device, which creators say has been selling well since it hit the shelves at Lakeland stores a week ago, was launched to keep up with high demand for microwave products.

Following tests, its creators found other vegetables can be used - but potatoes offer the best, crispiest results. (ANI)
