New Delhi, Fri, 19 Aug 2011 ANI

New Delhi, Aug 19 (ANI): Veteran social activist Anna Hazare will finally walk out of Tihar Jail at around 11 a.m. on Friday to head for the Ramlila Ground which will be the site of his ongoing indefinite fast for a strong Lokpal.

"Anna will come out from Tihar at around 11 a.m. He will go to Rajghat first, then he will go to Ramlila Maidan," civil society activist Arvind Kejriwal said.

"Anna will go to Mayapuri Chowk and then to Rajghat. Then he will go to Vijay Chowk and then to Ramlila Maidan," added Kiran Bedi.

"Anna is on a dharna because he was taken into custody for no reason and then let off. Anna would have gone to Ramlila Maidan if the ground was ready," she said.

Seventy-four-year-old Hazare, in a video shot inside Tihar jail, said the protests by "all my brothers and sisters, the elderly and the children" was giving him a "new energy" for his fast.

He said people were fed up of corruption and the government should not take long to bring a strong Lokpal Bill. Hazare, who is on the third day of his fast inside Tihar jail, also said he is not "tired" at all.

Meanwhile, people are arriving in large numbers since early morning to participate in Hazare's proposed yatra to Ramlila Ground, which will be the site of his ongoing indefinite fast for a strong Lokpal.

However, Police have made elaborate security arrangements to keep any untoward incident at bay.

Around 300 police personnel have been pressed into service outside Tihar. Apart from this, a team of Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) has also come here along with sniffer dogs.

The standoff between Team Anna and the Delhi Police come to an end late on Wednesday night following hectic consultations between the two sides over the proposed fast site and the duration of the protest.

Delhi Police finally gave Team Anna the permission to fast for 15-days at Ramlila Maidan after marathon discussions between the civil society activists and Delhi Police Commissioner BK Gupta.

Initially, the police were insisting on allowing only five days" of protest, which was turned down by the activists who asked for permission for one month.

Police had earlier denied permission to Hazare to hold his indefinite fast at Jayaprakash Narayan Park near Ferozeshah Kotla Ground after Hazare refused to give an undertaking that he would restrict his anti-corruption protest to three days and the number of protesters to 5,000. (ANI)
